Quiz: Mr. Blue Sky

I would never have guessed that the delightful ELO song “Mr. Blue Sky” would be used in so many different movies. While you enjoy this video with ELO performing “Mr. Blue Sky” and look forward to seeing it in the upcoming “Megamind,” see if you can think of other movies, commercials, trailers, and television shows that feature the song.

  1. The first thing I remember “Mr. Blue Sky” used in was a VW New Beatle commercial from 2003. I also remember it being used in “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” and “The Invention of Lying.” I firmly believe the VW ad was what started the media’s love affair with this great song.

  2. Nell,
I believe it was also in ‘Martian Child’ (a truly charming John Cusack movie), ‘The Game Plan,’ ‘Role Models,’ and ‘Paul Blart: Mall Cop.’
Ok, so I had to cheat a little since Darren took the only ones I could think of. As soon as I looked these up, I remembered hearing them in those films.
I definitely suggest ‘Martian Child’ to anyone who hasn’t seen it yet. I’ve always been a big John Cusack fan, but the film is pretty heartwarming and well done too.
