Anything Can Happen Day Giveaway

If you’re as old as I am, you remember the Mickey Mouse Club’s “Anything Can Happen Day.”

In that spirit, I’m going to have an anything-can-happen giveaway grab-bag. The first TEN people to send me an email at moviemom@moviemom.com with Anything Can Happen in the subject line will get a DVD from my collection. Let me know the ages of your children and any other preferences to help me decide, but I make no promises. At worst, you’ll get a DVD you can pass on to a more appropriate recipient. I’m not sending out anything awful, but some of this stuff is not exactly classic. That’s what anything can happen means! I look forward to hearing from you and good luck to all!

Contest Reminder: Faerie Tale Theatre

Don’t forget that Tuesday the 30th is the deadline for entering the contest for a full DVD set of Shelly Duvall’s Faerie Tale Theatre.
The series has just been re-released on DVD and I have FOUR copies to give away! This is such a special prize I want to make sure everyone has a chance to participate. sleeping beautyjpg From 1982-1987 actress Shelly Duvall produced and hosted a series of fairy tales on Showtime, starring some of Hollywood’s top performers. Christopher Reeve and Matthew Broderick played very charming princes, and princesses included Bernadette Peters as Sleeping Beauty, Susan Sarandon as Beauty, and “Flashdance’s” Jennifer Beals as Cinderella. The costumes and sets were low-budget but very creative, inspired in part by the classic fairy tale illustrations of Maxfield Parrish and Howard Pyle.
The series has just been re-released on DVD and I have FOUR copies to give away! This is such a special prize I want to make sure everyone has a chance to participate. Contest: The First Olympics

I am thrilled to have FIVE copies of this week’s DVD pick of the week, The First Olympics, one of my all-time favorites. This two-part television miniseries an outstanding family film about the first modern-day Olympics in 1896, exciting, touching, funny, and inspiring. Kids Video Contest: Summer in My Town

The virtual field trip website MeetMeAtTheCorner.org is challenging kids to create a video documentary of a special summertime event in their hometown.
The “Summer in My Town” video documentary contest is for children ages 7-13. The winner will receive a cash prize of $250.00 plus a special airing of the video on the Web site this fall. The contest deadline is August 31, 2008 and all films must be submitted on MiniDV tape.
Complete information on how to make a video documentary, including step-by-step instructions on creating storyboards and voiceovers, as well as submission guidelines, rules and forms can be found at MeetMeAtTheCorner.org. Final cassette tapes can be mailed to Meet Me at the Corner “Summer in My Town” Video Contest, 1710 First Ave., PO Box 283, New York, NY 10128. All submissions are the property of Meet Me at the Corner and will not be returned.
“The ‘Summer in My Town’ contest is a great way for kids to learn how to make a complete documentary-style video and discover more about their community. It’s not a way to share summer vacation videos. It’s so much more than that.
