Captain America’s To-Do List of Cultural Touchstones — US and International Versions

IGN has a fascinating post about an important difference in the US and international versions of this week’s “Captain America: Winter Soldier.” As we remember, Cap was a WWII soldier whose abilities were enhanced in a special experimental program. He was frozen for decades and has been thawed out, so he is still getting used to the world more than half a century since he last saw it. Briefly, we see a list he is keeping of things people tell him he should know about as he adds a Marvin Gaye album recommended to him by a new friend played by Anthony Mackie. The list elicits knowing laughs from the audience, with items like “Star Wars/Trek” and “Steve Jobs.”

But for the non-US audience, Marvel made a slightly different list with “World Cup” and “Sherlock.” Check out IGN to see the differences.  The Russo brothers, who directed the film, told me there are more for other countries as well, so I hope we get to see them online.
