Happy Birthday to The Worst Director Ever

Uwe Boll is now pretty much universally considered the worst movie director alive, if not the worst ever. Not only are five of his films in the IMDB’s all-time worst 100 list (a record), but Boll has inspired a petition begging him to stop making movies. Like Ed Wood and other legendarily awful directors, Boll is better at raising money to make movies than at making them. He licenses a pre-sold brand, a video game, and then makes a completely incompetent movie about it. About his film “Alone in the Dark,” I wrote ” Reid delivers her lines as though she is calling for another round of Mai Tais for the house.”
I have to admit, I got a kick out of the corporate governance element of his commentary, and this short film (brief crude language) is much more entertaining than Boll’s movies.
So do you think he might be contemplating making “Springtime for Hitler”? It would seem to fit his character.
I like Uwe Boll!
His movies may be bad, but he is passionate about making movies. I’d rather watch one of his movies as opposed another formula film from a direct-by-numbers film maker. Uwe may not have a lot of directoral talent, but he tries. Heck, his Dungeon Siege movie even some nice wilderness and landscape shots.
Thanks, Eric! I think his arrogance turns people off more than his movies. I’m glad you enjoy them!
Worst director of all time?
I always thought that was Edward D. Wood, Jr.
(also known simply as Ed Wood; his claims to
infamy include _Glen or Glenda_, and _Plan 9
from Outer Space_.) Tim Burton directed a film
about the guy in 1994, starring Johnny Depp in
the title role and Martin Landau in an Oscar-winning
performance (Best Supporting Actor) as a washed-up
Bela Lugosi.
Thanks, Douglas! I mentioned Ed Wood in the post and I love the Burton/Depp movie. I wonder if someone will ever make a movie about Boll!
Personally, U** B*** is better off broke.
If the movie companies had brains to match his fists
against flying lead, he’d be splattered mess.
The day will never come for that guy to quit directing…
not even at gunpoint. But we can dream, can’t we?
I won’t mention his name because, with his state
of mind, he probably thinks when someone says it,
money magically appears for him.
Very funny and very apt! Thanks, Chris.
Thought you might find this list of the worst directors of all time of interest — definitely Boll in the lead, and honestly if I could vote 1000 times, I would. This guy is so bad it’s mind-blowing.
Thanks, LaraP.
