Strangely Prescient from 1995: “Die Hard With a Vengeance” on Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton

Die Hard with a Vengeance,” the third of the “Die Hard” movies, came out in 1995. The script was original designed as a “Lethal Weapon” sequel, and though Samuel L. Jackson and Bruce Willis had appeared in two of the same films, this was the first time they shared screen time. Everyone who saw it remembers Willis wearing the racist sign, the water puzzle, and the great chemistry between the two stars. But even though I have seen it at least four times since it came out 21 years ago, when it was on TV this week, I was very surprised that characters refer to both of this year’s Presidential front-runners.

Zeus: That’s it!
John McClane: What?
Zeus: Hillary Clinton. The 42nd President.
John McClane: Nah, she’d be the 43rd President.
Zeus: Alright, alright. But who’s the 21st President?
John McClane: I don’t know.
Zeus: You don’t know?
John McClane: No, I don’t know! Do you know?
Zeus: No!
John McClane: Well?

Wanda: “And I’m going to marry Donald Trump!”

Just another strange twist in this strangest of elections.

Don’t forget, back in 2000, “The Simpsons” not only predicted Trump would become President; they predicted he would tank the economy, leaving a disaster for his successor — Lisa Simpson.
