I’m not crazy about the idea of “religion” at all. Don’t get me wrong here I’m a big Jesus follower. But I don’t think that Jesus was a big “religious” guy either.
I haven’t seen the movie yet, and based on what I’ve heard about it I don’t think that it’s going to be that bad (but I could be wrong). What I think ‘is’ a problem has to do with the media that is trying to use the spins of publicity to rip and divide groups to create animosity.
And in regards to my comment about religion, try taking this in the context of what one of Jesus’ followers wrote; which I also believe was a part of Jesus’ teachings. “Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.” (Jame 1:27)
Thanks for a thoughtful comment, Mr. Gott. I love that quote. Certainly, organized religion has been used and abused for many purposes that have nothing to do with the teachings of the prophets.
In any event, this film is far less controversial than the last one, which questioned some of the notions most fundamental to some religions. Even the Vatican has said that this film is not objectionable, though the Catholic League (which has no official role in the church hierarchy) has spoken out against it. As you said, the media thrives on controversy, though, so they like to report on the complaints.
