List: Crunchy Conservative Movies

My fellow blogger (and movie maven) Ron Dreher is compiling a list of Crunchy Con movies on his blog, which promotes the ideas of traditionalist conservatives who support environmental conservation, frugal living, and the preservation of traditional family values. Take a look at what he has come up with and some of the ideas from commenters. Just about all the movies are great choices, especially if they lead to a debate about the validity of their being interpreted as “conservative” or “liberal.”
I am so against this on many levels.
As someone somewhere in between conservative and libertarian, and as someone who watches movies, I can think of no better way to sap the joy of watching a movie than to bring politics into the experience where it was not intended. I have seen similar lists of conservative and libertarian movies, and never really cared for those lists.
Sorry to say, I am also not terribly impressed with crunchy conservatism, either. I couldn’t get through Rod’s book. Rod seems to confuse personal preferences with government action. Who really cares if he eats granola, lives in a more unique (read: nicer, more expensive) house than mine, etc.
Well, Dave, as they say, the personal is political. Some partisans claim every virtue as especially connected to their ideology, and, as I have said, some of the best movies open themselves up to a range of interpretations.
