New on Netflix: Anne, Based on Anne of Green Gables

Netflix’s “Anne,” based on the beloved classic books about the imaginative, outspoken, red-headed orphan who insists on the “e” in her name premieres in May.

It looks lovely, though it’s going to be hard to top the Megan Follows version with Colleen Dewhurst. The 1934 version starred a young actress so taken with the role that she changed her name to Anne Shirley. It’s a lovely film, though I can’t forgive it for making a big change in the storyline about Anne and Gilbert Blythe.
