Olivia Thirlby from “The Wackness”

The wonderful Olivia Thirlby, who played Juno‘s best friend and is featured in the current Vanity Fair cover story on the most promising young stars, stopped by for a few seconds when I was interviewing Jonathan Levine, the writer/director of her new film, “The Wackness.”

Thanks for asking, Kate! I wish I could post reviews of all of the independent films I see, but don’t always have time. I am thinking of doing capsules for some films. I liked “The Wackness” very much — clearly the work of an exceptionally talented and perceptive film-maker. But it is also the work of a very young film-maker. Some parts of the film are stronger than others — the chemistry between the three lead characters is excellent and the period detail is evocative without being intrusive. If you see it, let me know what you think!
