‘Paranormal Activity’s’ Real Curves

My friend Christian Toto makes an important point in his post about the “reality” of the record-breaking thriller, “Paranormal Activity.” The movie feels real not just because the actors use their real names and the footage all appears to be from their home-made video. It’s co-star Katie Featherston’s body. She has a lovely figure, but it is not the hyper-toned Size 0 we are used to seeing on screen.
Featherston’s conventional figure gives her movie an added sense that what we’re watching isn’t some artificial construct – even though it is just that.
It’s likely the next time you see her on screen she’ll be thinner, leaner and more like her Hollywood peers. But for “Paranormal Activity” her figure proves a very normal part of the film’s gimmick.
Toto says he likes the way Featherston looks now and wishes more actresses would appear on screen that way. But with the tabloid fat police shrieking about “mom jeans” for any actress who wears as much as a Size 4, I suspect that Featherston is already working with a personal trainer for some upcoming “how I lost 10 pounds” magazine story.
I had to comment about your article on Katie Featherston. I agree that Featherston looked great in Paranormal Activity but I am sure that the tabloids will say she looked fat. It drives me crazy that Hollywood seems to think that any woman more than a size 2 is “heavy”. Is it any wonder that girls today have eating disorders?
Why can’t women look normal? I personally like a woman with curves.
I remember when the tabloids were getting hysterical about Britney Spears “weight gain.” For weeks they screamed about how she was “ballooning up”. Well she looked just fine to me. But she lost weight and all was forgiven. It’s disgusting. It really is. But what can you do about it? How to you change the current culture?
Thanks, Richard! I agree that this obsession with weight is appalling. All we can do is what we are doing now — speaking out and sending messages to all of the girls and women in our lives that “normal” is beautiful.
Meh, she looked fat to me. I guess some people just like chubby chicks. That’s fine with me, it just means that someone else can wingman for me while I take a nice healthy girl who’s sitting at 115lbs.
Very funny, Daniel! I hope the women you find appealing judge you by those “nice healthy” standards, too.

Well I can tell you one thing I have not been freaked in a LONG time by a movie but that movie got me, I myself have dealt with supernatural expieriences.. no where NEAR as large as the couple in this movie but I do believe in the supernatural, ghosts, and demons. As far as the girl in this movie, yeah she wasnt a size 0 but you know what shes at least healthy and dont have to regurgate her lunch and/or starve herself to be beautiful in some’s eyes, beauty last for only so long physically, but beauty inside will last eternity, some just dont realize that and their minds are smudged by this century’s expectations of what beauty really is.
