Steel Magnolias Remake Coming to Lifetime October 7

I’m very excited about the upcoming remake of “Steel Magnolias” coming to Lifetime on October 7. Like the beloved 1989 original, it has an all-star cast with Queen Latifah, Jill Scott, Phylicia Rashad, and Alfre Woodward. The movie was based on a play by Robert Harling, a tribute to his late sister, who believed, like Shelby (played by Julia Roberts in the original), “I would rather have thirty minutes of wonderful than a lifetime of nothing special.”
I dont understand why they are remaking this movie. One of the best things about the 1989 version is that it withstands the test of time.
The only way,as far as I am concerned, that this movie could even be filmed…is with an all black super talented cast. It is not possible to duplicate an iconic truly wonderful movie that is Steel Magnolias. It will never be duplicated. We all love the actors involved in this new story. Hope we have another movie to relate to and enjoy.
I love the original “Steel Magnolias”. Shirley McLaine is my favorite character, but I love the entire movie. I plan to pop popcorn, sit and look at this version. It will be different but it will be an event.
Phyllis and Kristi — I agree entirely! And Alisha, the first one will always be a classic, but I think this story is ready for a reboot. Phyllis, pass the popcorn!
