Lip Dubs

As usual, I only find out about something after it has passed from cool and edgy to “so yesterday,” but I think lip dubs are adorable, my favorite viral video project since the complaints choirs.
These are short videos made by people in offices, lip-synching to pop and rock songs. It has to involve a group and appear spontaneous and most of them are made in one bravura continuous take.
Lip dubs have been made by schools and families. Even a movie star or two get into the act:
I love the creativity and spirit and I especially love the way you get a sense of these different office environments. Makes me wish I was still a Cub Scout Den Mother — we would be all over this!

Kavanah is a documentary production company dedicated to creating films on Jewish themes to be used in educational settings. It was established by Lauren Shweder Biel, a Ph.D. candidate in Anthropology at New York University. The word “kavanah” means “intention,” “concentration,” or “focus” and is an essential part of meaningful action of all kinds, including ritual and prayer.
Beil has made two films so far:
Abraham’s Daughters: A Bat Mizvah Story, exploring the multiple dimensions of this life cycle ceremony as it is practiced and experienced in contemporary Jewish life (35 minutes), and 1-800-GO-KOSHER, a day in the life of New York City’s only rapid-response kitchen koshering service (10.5 minutes).

YouTube has set up a new site for independent film-makers, a curated collection of the very best films you are unlikely to find in theaters or on television, shown in an upgraded High Quality viewing system. Check it out to get a look at the next generation of outstanding film-makers.
Current films include the Oscar-nominated “Our Time is Up” with Kevin Pollak as a therapist who rethinks his theraputic technique when he gets some bad news, an animated opera called “Love and War,” and “Are You the Favorite Person of Anybody?” with John C. Reilly, Mike White, and Miranda July, who wrote it.
