The Best SNL “Breaks” — The Cast Can’t Stop Laughing

One of the highlights of last night’s 40th anniversary celebration of “Saturday Night Live” was the short with Andy Samberg and Adam Sandler singing about all the times members of the cast could not stop laughing and broke character. Here’s a terrific highlight reel showing some of the best examples.
One of my favorite stories about characters breaking on SNL was told by writer John Mulaney, who came up with the character Stephan with Bill Hader. He often changed the cue cards between dress rehearsal and going live, so Bill was usually reading the punchlines for the first time live on the air. After a while it became a game to see how badly they could get him to break.
Thanks, Matty J! It was so funny to watch him lose it when he came back this season.
