  1. I can’t believe I got passed over again. I’ve got a worse record than Susan what’s-her-name from All My Children. What has a middle class, middle age, paunchy, bearded (but it is cut close), suburban anglo got to do to win this thing?
I wonder what J.D. does with these awards. Just where exactly should they be displayed for the optimal effect? Any suggestions, O waggish commentators on Movie Mom’s site?

  2. My oops – I forgot to attach my name to the above post. It is indeed I – the rogueishly clever, rakishly charming, raconteur and slightly balding theological gadfly, Jestrfyl.

  3. I like Johnny Depp, but this is not exactly a surprise – he was also number 1 in a list of 50 sexiest celebrities that I saw recently.
My personal choice would be a tie between Viggo Mortensen and Alan Rickman. And, in the category of really sexy older men, Ian Holm, while not conventionally handsome, has incredible charisma.
Just once, I’d like to see an older “Sexiest Man” like, maybe, jestrfyl. But, then again, I’m 54, so I find older men more appealing than I used to…

  4. I have to laugh a bit at Alicia’s comment in that she puts Vigo Mortensen ( just turned 51) and Alan Rickman ( will be 64 in a few months) in a category together with Johnny Depp (46) then throws in Ian Holm (who’s what 78?) as an older fellow she fancies. Alan’s never considered one of the older guys is he? Good genes (and good jeans too) I suppose. I wonder at what age they’ll finally have him up against the older actors? He’s not exactly traditional handsome but he’s really got something and when you add that if velvet had a voice sound of his, plus he’s just so interesting. Doesn’t hurt that he’s friends with interesting, sexy people like Depp.

  5. Thanks, Alicia and Animaltalker! One of the good things about People’s annual issue is that they always salute a range of men of all ages and colors. My favorite male celebrities of the moment include everyone from Zac Efron to Denzel Washington, Harrison Ford, Alan Rickman, James Franco, Antonio Banderas, Alec Baldwin, Brad Pitt, George Clooney, and many, many more. Part of what I love about my job!
