British TV Greats, Now Streaming!

Starting tomorrow, Acorn TV, the first British TV streaming service in North America, will offer the first two series of Helen Mirren’s iconic, Emmy-winning role as Jane Tennison in Prime Suspect. Series 1 guest stars also include Tom Wilkinson and Ralph Fiennes. As always, the first episodes of each of the 18 series are available for free, while complete access to the 125 hours is $2.99 a month or $29.99 for a year.

I Forgive You: A Powerful and Inspiring New Series on GMC

GMC has a deeply moving new documentary series premiering this Sunday at 9 and 11 called I Forgive You, with stories of people to forgive those who have hurt them or someone they love. Instead of the usual reality fare of competitions and catfights, this show brings two parties together to try and facilitate healing, overcome hatred, anger and revenge from real-life traumatizing events. Guided with mediation and healing support from educator and therapist Angie Richey, each story will showcase those who forgive and those who are forgiven. Both require courage and both can be intensely spiritual and healing. Demonstrating the power of forgiveness motivated by people’s faith, goodness, and, in many cases, their spiritual values, the series showcases individuals seeking to forgive someone from a criminal or violent act, as well as estranged family members, and love, marriage or business relationships that ended with hatred or bitterness.

Section 60: Arlington National Cemetery

“Section 60: Arlington National Cemetery” is a documentary from HBO about “the saddest acre in America,” the final resting place of our military who made the ultimate sacrifice in Iraq and Afganistan. Emmy-winning producers Jon Alpert and Matthew O’Neill (Baghdad ER) capture the profound combination of loss, love and pride felt by cemetery visitors, portraying the losses sustained in military conflicts while honoring those who gave their lives for our country. The film shows the pain and grief of the families and friends who visit to pay tribute and find comfort and a sense of community. HBO has also listed resources for grieving families and those who want to help them.

Browncoats Unite! It’s the 10th Anniversary of “Firefly” Special

One of the highlights of the 2012 Comic-Con was the reunion of the cast and creator of the cult television series, “Firefly.” When I saw them, they had just come from taping a 10th anniversary special, and it will be broadcast tomorrow night at 10/9 Central on the Science Channel, where the original series is still a fan favorite.

The 60-minute special includes secrets from the set, exclusive cast interviews, and footage from this year’s colossal Comic-Con panel that dominated the pop culture conversation. Joining Whedon and Fillion are Serenity crewmembers Sean Maher, Summer Glau, Adam Baldwin, Morena Baccarin, Alan Tudyk, Gina Torres and Jewel Staite; along with executive producer Tim Minear and executive story editor Jose Molina.

Nicholas Sparks is Writing for Television

Best-selling author Nicholas Sparks writes books that have been made into very successful movies like Nights in Rodanthe, The Notebook, Message in a Bottle, and A Walk to Remember. His next movie is “Safe Haven,” coming out for Valentine’s Day.

He is now working on three television shows A Bend in the Road at TNT, The Falls at ABC Family and Deliverance Creek at Lifetime. I’m guessing that we can expect to see an important letter and/or a sad death in all of them.

According to Huffington Post:

“Bend In The Road” centers on a sheriff managing life in a coastal Georgia town, while “The Falls” is a modern-day “Romeo And Juliet” tale. Meanwhile, Lifetime’s “Deliverance Creek” will follow a woman as she attempts to protect her family after the civil war.
