A new version of the classic book by Charlotte Bronte is coming to the screen. “Jane Eyre,” the story of the shy governess who loves her brooding employer, a man with a dark secret.

It has been filmed many times, with some of the best versions starring Joan Fontaine and Orson Welles (with a brief appearance by a very young Elizabeth Taylor), Susannah York and George C. Scott, and Charlotte Gainsbourg and William Hurt, and Samantha Morton and Ciaran Hinds.

Here is an exclusive glimpse of the upcoming version with Mia Wasikowska, Michael Fassbender, Dame Judi Dench, and Sally Hawkins. It opens in select theaters on March 11.

Sneak Peek: ‘Gnomeo & Juliet’

Posted on January 26, 2011 at 8:00 am

I’m looking forward to Gnomeo & Juliet.  It’s Shakespeare’s story of star-crossed love — with garden gnomes — and an all-star voice cast of classically-trained British acting royalty including James McAvoy, Emily Blunt, Dame Maggie Smith, Patrick Stewart, and….Dolly Parton, Hulk Hogan, and Ozzie Osborne!

This time, I’m not reviewing a film; I am appearing in one! And I am very excited. “The Flaw,” a documentary about the financial meltdown, includes me as one of its interview subjects. And it has been accepted at Sundance — and I will be there for a Q&A following one of the screenings! Stay tuned!

Trailer: I Am

Posted on January 12, 2011 at 8:00 am

Director Tom Shadyac directed some of Hollywood’s biggest and wildest and highest-grossing (in both senses of the word) comedies: “Ace Ventura,” “The Nutty Professor,” “Liar, Liar,” and “Bruce Almighty.” He had everything money could buy.

And then he almost lost it all. He was severely injured in a bicycle accident. It made him think that what he had was getting in the way of what he really wanted. So he began to give away his money. And he took a four-person crew on a journey to ask the most thoughtful people he could find to ask them the most profound questions he knew.

I Am features Desmond Tutu, Noam Chomsky, Howard Zinn, and many more with their thoughts on our world and what we can do to make life better for everyone. It opens next month.
