‘The Good Wife’s’ Promising Newcomer: Mamie Gummer

“The Good Wife” has engrossing drama, fascinating characters, glossy production values, and superb performers. Recently making her second appearance on the show as attorney Nancy Crozier is an exceptional young actress named Mamie Gummer. Nancy Crozier likes to appear charmingly naive but she is calculating and ruthless. Gummer makes her complicated and believable, a type we have all met yet a distinctive and very particular character.
Gummer learned a lot from her mother, Meryl Streep, but has really come into her own as a performer and not coincidentally, resembles her mother less with each new role. I am delighted to hear that she will be a regular on “Off the Map,” a new medical series from “Grey’s Anatomy’s” Shondra Rimes, scheduled to begin in the mid-season.
Hi, Nell. I agree completely about “The Good Wife” and Mamie Gummer. I saw the most recent episode with Mamie Gummer but did not recognize her as Meryl Streep’s daughter (I didn’t catch the credits or I would have recognized the last name). I enjoy all the CBS Tuesday night lineup, especially “NCIS” and have been getting into “The Good Wife” lately. It is really gripping television. She was very good at playing a clever lawyer who knew just how to manipulate a difficult judge.
Thanks, Alicia! I did not recognize her either, which is one reason I wanted to write about her. I am looking forward to seeing her new show.
I didn’t recognize Ms. Gummer in “The Good Wife” either, although more recently I’ve caught her a few times in “Off the Map”, which doesn’t seem to have enough going for it to make it through another season. Gummer continues to demo herself as a decent actress and likely will survive the show’s demise. True, she doesn’t have her mother’s talent…but then, who does?
Thanks, Shary! I see her sister, a real look-alike, is now appearing in a play in NY. Wouldn’t it be great to see them acting with their mom?
