1. I’m torn. If only it weren’t for the fact that Will Farrell has yet to be in a single movie I actually enjoyed, even just a little bit, I’d be more excited about this one. He even managed to ruin Bewitched, which with Nora Ephron at the helm, I didn’t think was possible – I was wrong.

2. With all respect and affection for Nora Ephron, I think it was the script that ruined “Bewitched.” They couldn’t decide whether to make it a tribute or a spoof. I have not liked many of Farrell’s movies, including the very popular “Elf.” But I did like him in “Stranger than Fiction,” one of my favorite movies of the past decade, and I think he’ll do a good job as a voice performer.    I can’t help but think of The Incredibles when I see this preview.. Hope I’m wrong..
   The Incredibles was the last good, fun movie I enjoyed. At least for am animated film

4. True, it doesn’t help when a movie can’t figure out what it wants to be – I remember Dragnet with Dan Akroyd and Tom Hanks having troubles with that. But then I recall Galaxy Quest and realize, yes it can be done. As for Bewitched, I was really excited when they first announced it, and with Nicole Kidman and Jim Carrey cast as Samantha and Darrin, I really thought it would be a winner. But then Carrey dropped out and for some reason they cast Will Farrell in his place, a man with a completely different comedic style both from Carrey and from either of the two original Darrins (I thought Jim Carrey could have easily pulled off a Dick York homage). And then, of course, they had to make Farrell the star of the movie (something I can’t help but to think didn’t come about until after Farrell was on board, and wouldn’t have been the case with Carrey), to the point that he overshadowed a stellar actress like Kidman, and that too threw the whole balance of the film off. Had they kept Carrey, I think even the spoof/tribute mix could have worked and ranked up there with Galaxy Quest, and I think he’d have balanced better against Nicole.
   But as far as this movie is concerned, I hope you’re right and having Farrell as a voice actor rather than actually on-screen will make a difference. Hard to mug for the camera if you aren’t on camera, and he won’t be able to have his requisite nude scene either. I think I’m just going to wait and read the reviews on this one, though, see if the critics (including yourself) like it and *why* they like it (because as you noted, a lot of people liked Elf). Maybe he’ll pleasantly surprise me.
