Key word is “looks” amazing…seeing as this is the greatest comic book in history its going to have to work to do the source material justice.
Yes, Ian, and I understand Moore has removed his name from the film, which makes me wonder whether it will be consistent with his vision. But that is always the challenge in adapting one medium for another.
Snyder adapted 300 with ease, which was pretty much a style over substance book anyways. Problem is, Watchmen puts the novel in graphic novel, and I don’t really trust Hollywood all that much to know that (and the Dark Knight raised the bar so high as to what a comic book movie should be…despite its distinguished place in comic book history, that might not be enough).
Adaptations of Moore’s work have not been encouraging (League of Extraordinary Gentlemen…can I get a crimes against humanity indictment, please?). I’m going to be on the negative side of guarded; I hope this will work, since there’s alot of work put into it, but I cannot immediatley say I will see it on the basis of the trailer.
Even though it does look amazing.
Very very disturbing that a movie like this was rated “R”. A very sad day for our rating system. The nudity, gore, and sex….How are men promoting a movie that spays the male member in your face throughout? beyond sick.
Thanks, Jim A. The MPAA rating system is unreliable, which is why I made it very clear in my review and parental advisory that this movie has extremely graphic violence and very explicit nudity. I appreciate your comment, which will be very helpful to people who are trying to determine whether the movie is appropriate for them.
