Contest: Downton Abbey, Seasons 1 and 2

Posted on September 23, 2012 at 1:25 pm

I’m thrilled to have this very special limited edition release to give away to one lucky fan.  Downton Abbey Seasons 1 and 2 will be released on Oct 2.  While we wait until January for Season 3 (now showing in the UK), you can enjoy Seasons 1 and 2, as the Earl and Countess of Grantham and their three beautiful and headstrong (and impeccably dressed) daughters try to find a way to keep their home despite the laws that require inheritance only by the male relatives.  Oscar-winner Shirley MacLaine joins the cast for the third season as the mother of the American-born Lady Grantham played by Elizabeth McGovern.

To enter the contest, send me an email at moviemom@moviemom.com with Downton in the subject line and tell me your favorite character in the series.  Don’t forget your address (US addresses only)!  I will pick a winner at random on October 2.  Good luck!

Tribute: Sesame Street’s Jerry Nelson

Posted on August 24, 2012 at 8:29 pm

We bid a sad farewell to Jerry Nelson of Sesame Street, and the Muppets, who has died at age 78.  He will probably be best remembered for providing the voice of The Count.

He was also featured as Sherlock Hemlock.

Lisa Henson, daughter of Muppet founder Jim Henson, said,  “Jerry Nelson imbued all his characters with the same gentle, sweet whimsy and kindness that were a part of his own personality. He joined the Jim Henson Co. in the earliest years, and his unique contributions to the worlds of Fraggles, Muppets, Sesame Street and so many others are, and will continue to be, unforgettable. On behalf of the Henson family and everyone at the Jim Henson Co., our deepest sympathies go out to Jerry’s family and to his many fans.”

May his memory be a blessing.
