Posted on March 1, 2015 at 12:36 pm

Happy Purim! May this be a year when all the Hamens of the world are vanquished.

This tale, was once told
In the days of Achashverosh
This one needs a new girl
Needs a good girl
A straight masterpiece!
So file in
Try to win
Be the queen of my cities
Well hold on, this girl’s the one!
That’s Esther, oh she’s so pretty!

I’m so hot! (oh man!)
Now I’m in charge and I got a plan
I’m so hot! (oh man!)
Betta bow down, or I’m gonna be mad
I’m so hot! (oh man!)
Say my name, you know who I am
I’m so hot! (oh man!)
Man, this schtuss ain’t funny
Break it down!

I’ll never bow to ya (oooo!)
I’ll never bow to ya (oooo!)
I’ll never bow to ya (oooo!)
Well, Shushan Funk gon’ give it to ya!
Well, Shushan Funk gon’ give it to ya!
Well, Shushan Funk gon’ give it to ya!
Here’s the news, he gonna kill the Jews
Don’t believe me, just watch! (HAMAN!)
Don’t believe me, just watch! x4
Hey, Hey Hey, Oh!

Stop!
Wait a minute!
Those two guys put some poison in it!
Don’t take a sip
I gotcha back
Yo, Haman! Get the stretch!
Ride through uptown, downtown, make Mordechai so pretty
Tell everyone, in the whole kingdom
He my favorite in dude in this city!

I’m so hot! (so mad!)
I feel like I’m on fire, man
I’m so hot! (so mad!)
Makes me mamish wanna retire man
I’m so hot! (so mad!)
They used to say my name and know who I am!
I’m so hot! (so mad!)
“This is just the start, honey”
Break it down!

But Haman wants to kill the Jews yeah (ooo!)
Yeah, I know, and I’m a Jew yeah! (ooo!)

Happy Purim!

Posted on March 7, 2012 at 6:00 am

Purim, which begins tonight, is the celebration of the triumph of Queen Esther over the plot of Haman to kill all the Jews. Jewish children love to dress up and to hear the “purim shpiel,” the megillah’s story of how Esther, a Jew, married King Ahasuerus. They shake their groggers (noisemakers) whenever the storyteller mentions Haman, the evil adviser to the king who wore a tri-cornered hat. Haman hated the Jews because Esther’s uncle Mordecai refused to bow to him, saying he would bow only to God.

There are some fine books for children about Purim, including The Whole Megillah and It Happened in Shushan: A Purim Story.

And there are some movies including the Veggie Tales’ Esther, the Girl Who Became Queen and One Night With the King.

And don’t forget to try some Hamantaschen, the delicious triangular cookies filled with jam or poppyseeds.

Contest: DVDs for Purim and Passover!

Posted on March 9, 2011 at 3:51 pm

There are two great new Shalom Sesame DVDs to celebrate the spring Jewish holidays and I have one of each to give away. It’s a wonderful way to help introduce children to two of the year’s most important festivals. This year, Purim begins the evening of March 19 and the first Passover seder is on April 18.

Be Happy, It’s Purim! Everyone is dressing up for Purim, so get out your groggers and join the fun! Avigail is inspired by the story of Esther. Moishe Oofnik is his usual grouchy self…but who is that mysterious masked singer at the Purim Spiel? Guest appearance by Eva Longoria.

It’s Passover, Grover! It’s almost time to celebrate Passover, and there is no horseradish to be found. Grover, Anneliese and Avigail put their heads together to track it down, but things get tricky when there is an Oofnik involved! Guest appearance by Jake Gyllenhaal

To win one of the DVDs, send me an email at moviemom@moviemom.com with Purim or Passover in the subject line to let me know which one you want. Don’t forget to include your address and tell me your favorite part of the holiday celebration. I’ll pick two random winners one week from today. Good luck and good yom tov!
