Contest: Scholastic’s “Chicken Little & More Zany Animal Stories”

Posted on June 24, 2012 at 8:05 am

I’m thrilled to have two copies of Chicken Little & More Zany Animal Stories to give away.  Scholastic’s wonderful series always has the best in children’s literature, gently animated and beautifully read.  This latest in the series includes:

CHICKEN LITTLE (Written and illustrated by Rebecca Emberley and Ed Emberley, narrated by Walter Mayes) A bold and colorful retelling of a classic tale! Children will delight as a crazy-eyed chicken and all his panicked friends try to run away from a falling sky.

THE GREAT WHITE MAN-EATING SHARK (Written by Margaret Mahy, illustrated by Jonathan Allen) Norvin, a boy who closely resembles a shark, uses his talents to scare away all the swimmers at Caramel Cove except for the one female shark in love. Help!

THE THREE-LEGGED CAT (Written by Margaret Mahy, illustrated by Jonathan Allen) Mrs. Gimble’s peg-leg cat, Tom, is taken for a hat and a ride atop her rascally roving brother’s bald head in this hilarious tale of mistaken identity.

DOOBY DOOBY MOO (Written by Doreen Cronin, illustrated by Betsy Lewin, narrated by Randy Travis) While Farmer Brown tries to figure out what the animals are up to, Duck is determined to enter the talent show contest and win!

To enter: Send me an email at moviemom@moviemom.com with Chicken Little in the subject line and tell me about your favorite hat (I hope it wasn’t a three-legged cat!).  Don’t forget your address!  (US addresses only.)  I will pick a winner on July 1, 2012.  Good luck!

Giveaway: Little Angels DVDs

Posted on June 2, 2012 at 8:30 am

I am delighted to have five copies of Little Angels: Animals, the latest in Roma Downey’s DVD series for preschoolers, to give away to my readers.

The DVDs are designed to help teach children their ABC’s, 123’s, and also introduce them to bible stories.  Roma Downey who starred in the hugely successful television show “Touched By An Angel” believes that introducing children to the Bible is one of the most important things parents can do for their children.

Brother Francis DVD Series for Catholic Children

Posted on February 10, 2012 at 8:00 am

The Brother Francis series is a gentle, accessible animated series for Catholic children with inviting and entertaining explanations of rituals and beliefs.

“The Rosary” DVD includes the prayers of the Rosary and the Apostles’ Creed and a touching version of Mary’s joyful submission to God’s will. It also features two songs, “I Love to Pray” and “The Our Father.”  “The Bread of Life” introduces children to the Eucharist and helps them prepare for their first Holy Communion as it portrays “The Story of Blessed Imelda Lambertini,”: the patroness of first Communicants.  It includes the songs, “I am the Bread of Life” and “What More Can He Give.” And “Let’s Pray” tells children that practice makes perfect — for prayer like everything else.  The song, “The Sign of the Cross” helps children remember how to make the sacred gesture and the title tune shows children that they can pray anywhere because God is everywhere.  It also includes a musical version of “The Our Father” and the story of Saint Therese’s “little way.”

Little Angels

Roma Downey knows something about angels after playing one on television in the fondly remembered “Touched by an Angel” series.  Now her Little Angels DVDs are a faith-based series for pre-schoolers to help them learn numbers and letters.  Animated twins Alex and Zoe have eight little angels watching over them, living on the ceiling of their bedroom and guiding them through the challenges of learning and growing.

Downey says, “For many years I had the privilege of playing an angel on television, bringing the message of God’s love to millions of Americans.  As a mother I have longed to be a part of a project that would help to bring that same message to children through the foundations of education.”  She calls the series “critical learning skills through the lens of timeless and appropriate Bible stories,” including spiritual, moral, and ethical lessons along with the three R’s.

I have a “Little Angels” DVD to give away!  Send me an email at moviemom@moviemom.com with “Angels” in the subject line and don’t forget your address!  I’ll pick a winner November 26.  Good luck!
