Children have more choices than ever on television, but some of the best viewing for kids is online. Common Sense Media has a great list of family-friendly YouTube stars. I’d add EvanTube to the list. Newsweek calls him The Most Popular Kid You’ve Never Heard Of, with 272 million views of his engaging videos, whether reviewing toys or just fooling around.
I like this one.
I hope it inspires other families to create their own films.

Country star Kellie Pickler joins the cast in “Beauty and the Beet,” from the Veggie Tales folks, coming out October 14, 2014. (With a name like that, it was just a question of time!) BEAUTY AND THE BEET, a brand-new VeggieTales musical that premieres Oct. 14 exclusively on DVD and digital download.
She plays Mirabelle, a sweet-potato singer whose family band is on the brink of superstardom. The companion CD features 10 brand-new songs, including an all-veggie rendition of the classic Christmas carol “Deck the Halls.”
Mirabelle’s family car breaks down en route to their biggest concert ever and they end up staying with Finnegan J. Beet, the bitter and lonely owner of a rundown mountaintop resort. Matching the Beet’s heartless actions with her own genuinely sweet nature, Mirabelle proves that just as God loves us all whether we deserve it or not, unconditional love is its own reward.

The NAACP has an all-star line-up of performers reminding parents to read to their children, including Bill Withers and Tatyana Ali. Take a listen — and follow their advice. There is no greater gift you can give your kids than reading to them — and letting them see that books matter in your life.

ABC will be airing a tribute to the classic educational series “Schoolhouse Rock” on September 7. Now parents can sing along to “I’m Just a Bill” and “Conjunction Junction” and share with their kids these delightful and remarkably informative gems.
Victoria Miller wrote for The Examiner:
According to CNN, the man behind the show’s iconic soundtrack was jazz pianist and vocalist Bob Dorough, who was approached in 1971 by a New York advertising exec whose sons could not multiply. After setting the multiplication tables to music with the song “Three’s a Magic Number,” the musician knew he had a hit.
Last year, Dorough, who is now 90, said he still performs and still gets requests from adults to sing some of the “Schoolhouse Rock” bits when they recognize his voice.
