Some of the world’s great singers pay tribute to singer/songwriter John Denver in a new DVD and album with covers of his most beloved hits, including “Sunshine on My Shoulders,” “Calypso,” “Annie’s Song,” and “Leaving on a Jet Plane.” Performers include Placido Domingo in a duet with his son, Denyse Graves, Shenyang, Rene Pape, and Barbara Padilla.
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, born 260 years ago today, wrote eight operas by the age of 16 and produced over 600 works amounting to over 200 hours of music in his short 35 years. He was a brilliant composer whose work stands among the greatest of all human achievements. Here’s an animated version of one of his most brilliant works, “The Magic Flute” (there is a PSA and a commercial at the beginning).
I love the Ingmar Bergman version of the opera.
The movie “Elvira Madigan” used Mozart’s Piano Concerto number 21 so memorably it is now known as the “Elvira Madigan” concerto.

Singer/songwriter/actress/businesswoman Dolly Parton turns 70 today!
This song was inspired by her childhood, born the fourth child of 12, to mother, Avie Lee and father, Robert Lee, in the Smoky Mountains of East Tennessee.
Here she sings one of her biggest hits with her goddaughter, Miley Cyrus.
She contributed a classic song and a deft, warm-hearted comic performance to “9 to 5.”
And she wrote this song, which became one of the biggest hits of all time when Whitney Houston sang it in “The Bodyguard.” Watch this with a handkerchief nearby.
