Suffragette, directed by Sarah Gavron, is the story of the fight to give women the right to vote in the UK, as Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton were working for women’s suffrage in the United States. This 19-day initiative, known as #Suffragette19, will drive attention to the current state of women’s equality, not just the movie. Everyone can do something and share something.

Now on DVD: The Great American Dream Machine

Posted on November 18, 2015 at 8:00 am

Between the anarchic comedy of “Rowen and Martin’s Laugh-In” and sketch comedy powerhouse “Saturday Night Live” was the outrageously funny PBS series The Great American Dream Machine from 1971-73. It was hosted by humorist and commentator Marshall Efron and featured Chevy Chase, Albert Brooks, and Andy Rooney, and it featured sketches, short films, and political commentary.

This classic show is now available on DVD and I am delighted to have one to give away. Send me an email at moviemom@moviemom.com with American in the subject line and tell me your favorite PBS series. Don’t forget your address! (US addresses only) I’ll pick a winner at random on November 30, 2015.

New from Anchor Bay! “Shelby, A Magical Holiday Tail,” the Dove®-family-approved movie for all ages, arrives on Digital HD Oct. 23 and on DVD and On Demand Nov. 3, 2015. Rescue dog Shelby (voice of Rob Schneider) manages to escape the dog pound on Christmas Eve and runs straight into the arms of a young aspiring magician named Jake (John Paul Ruttan) and the two are immediately inseparable. The only thing standing between them and a perfect Christmas is the notorious local dogcatcher played by Tom Arnold. He has Shelby in his sights and he’s not going to stop until he finds him. The film also stars the legendary comedian Chevy Chase (“Vacation” series, “Community”) and Addison Holley (“Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood,“ “Little Charmers”). Can some Christmas magic save the day?
